A Highway “Scandinavia” – the main federal road linking the North-West of Russia with Finland and other Scandinavian countries. From St. Petersburg via Vyborg it leads to the border and is a part of European route E-18. This is one of the busiest roads in the region; it runs more than 40,000 passenger cars and trucks per day.

In 2010 between St. Petersburg and Helsinki was opened a regular movement of high-speed passenger train “Allegro”, which follows through Vyborg.
On the occasion of the first voyage of the “Allegro” at the railway station in Vyborg, was held a meeting of Vladimir Putin, on that moment a Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, and Tarja Halonen, President of Finland.
“Allegro” quickly became popular. In 2011 it was chosen by 300,000 passengers, and in 2012 – already more than 350,000 people.

On the territory of the Vyborg district there are three international automobile checkpoints across the federal border – the largest in North-West is “Torfyanovka”, and also “Brusnichnoe” and “Svetogorsk”.
Around the clock across the border between Russia and Finland passes a large flow of vehicles. It especially increases during weekends and public holidays: Finland has long been a popular destination for holidays and shopping among Russians.
